Choose a Lucerne museum by the visit you want
A Lucerne museum visit starts with a choice of places, rather than a single citywide ticket. The Swiss Museum of Transport offers a museum admission ticket and a broader day pass. Museum Luzern, the Glacier Garden and the Rosengart Collection have their own admission rules and calendars. Decide whether you want exhibitions alone or a day that also includes film, planetarium and chocolate experiences, then choose the corresponding ticket.
The transport museum is farther east along the lake than the station and KKL. Museum Luzern is at Kasernenplatz, while the Glacier Garden can be paired geographically with the Lion Monument. Use the city sightseeing guide to combine an indoor visit with outdoor stops. Leave the longer old town walk for another part of the day if you want time to explore exhibitions without rushing.

Transport exhibitions or a full day pass?
The basic transport museum ticket includes permanent and temporary exhibitions and Media World. It excludes the Film Theatre, Planetarium and Swiss Chocolate Adventure. The full day pass includes the museum, Media World, Swiss Chocolate Adventure, daily Film Theatre screenings and daytime Planetarium shows. Transport to the museum and food are extra with both packages. A validity of one day describes the ticket, rather than a guided tour lasting all day.
Admission prices checked in November 2026 were CHF 37 for adult museum entry and CHF 62 for the adult day pass. For students and apprentices under 26 the respective prices were CHF 27 and CHF 46; for children under 16 they were CHF 16 and CHF 29. Children under six enter the museum free, but their day pass costs CHF 12. Match each child to the correct package rather than carrying the museum's free admission rule over to the pass.
Redeem the day pass voucher at the ticket desk. The museum describes year-round operation, but check the current day's attraction programme when selecting shows. Its maintenance notice names 11 November for the Film Theatre without specifying a year. Treat this as a reason to consult the current programme, rather than a fixed closure for every November.
Museum Luzern, Glacier Garden and Rosengart
Museum Luzern at Kasernenplatz 6 opens Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00 and closes on Mondays. Special opening dates may differ. Adult admission from age 17 is CHF 12; children aged six to sixteen pay CHF 4 and younger children enter free. Tickets are sold at the desk rather than online. The Swiss Travel Pass is listed for free admission. This is a different admission decision from either transport museum package.
The Glacier Garden charges CHF 24 from age sixteen, CHF 12 for children under sixteen and nothing for children under six. Its reduced rate for seniors, disability beneficiaries, apprentices and students is CHF 18. It opens daily from 10:00 to 18:00 in April through October and from 10:00 to 17:00 in November through March. Groups of at least ten paying visitors and school classes should register in advance; guest card discounted tickets and group tickets are sold at the museum desk. The nearby Lion Monument is free to visit, with Glacier Garden entry separate.
The Rosengart Collection charges adults CHF 20, seniors over 65 and disability beneficiaries CHF 18, and students up to thirty and young people aged seven to sixteen CHF 10. In November and December 2026 it opens daily from 11:00 to 17:00, except 25 December. From 1 January to 25 March 2027 the hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 12:00 to 17:00, with Monday closures through 22 March and an additional closure from 4 to 9 February. From 26 March to 31 October 2027 it opens daily from 10:00 to 18:00.
Getting to exhibitions and planning access
For the transport museum, take the S3 or Voralpenexpress to Luzern Verkehrshaus, or buses 6, 8 or 24. The museum gives approximate journeys of eight minutes by train, ten minutes by bus or boat to Verkehrshaus-Lido, and thirty minutes along the waterfront on foot. These are orientation times, so leave room for the actual departure. See arrival and local transport for the wider journey to Lucerne.
For a family visit, check access as well as ticket ages. Rosengart is wheelchair accessible but prohibits pushchairs; flash, tripods and selfie sticks are also prohibited. A stroll by Chapel Bridge or the lake can complement an exhibition visit, while the chocolate and tasting page explains how guided tastings differ from the transport museum's Swiss Chocolate Adventure.
